Falls kill more than 6000 people and cost the healthcare system $3 billion a year.

Today is the launch of the Falls Prevention Alliance Australia. The Alliance is calling for action to implement Australia's first national plan on falls prevention. Media releases about the launch of the Falls Prevention Alliance Australia are now available.

Action needed on falls: health experts, politicians and much-loved actor join forces to demand change

“We have an ageing population in Australia. Without investment in prevention programs, the problem of fall-related injuries and deaths will continue to rise. We need action now and strategies for people living in their own homes as well as aged care.” - Prof Cathie Sherrington

New national alliance calls for urgent action on falls prevention

“Australia is a world leader in falls prevention research, but we are lacking a strong coordinated approach which could help to reduce falls across the country rapidly.” - Prof Kim Delbaere

It’s great to see more attention being given to fall prevention across Australia, especially for older people who are at higher risk every day. A lot of families don’t realise how important early support and regular health checks can be until something serious happens. Even a simple doctor appointment can help identify balance or mobility concerns before they turn into bigger issues. This alliance sounds like a solid step towards improving awareness, community support, and long term safety outcomes.
